- Proven and reliable technology
- Low power loss at low temperatures
- Closed design: no need to top up with water
- No memory effect
- Safety: hardly any cases of exploding batteries
- Maintenance-free
- High weight per kilowatt of power
- Lower power density, therefore lower range in comparison
- Permanently installed in the vehicle due to its weight
- No charging of the battery outside the vehicle possible (exception E-Joy 20)
- Longer charging times: usually 6-10 hours depending on capacity in Ah
- Higher self-discharge: up to 1% per day
- Shorter service life: usually 300-500 charging cycles
Advantages
- Low weight per kilowatt of power
- High power density, therefore greater range and better "pulling power
- Can be removed from the vehicle
- Internal and external charging outside the vehicle possible
- Shorter charging times: usually 4-8 hours, depending on capacity in Ah
- Depending on the capacity, the battery can be charged up to 50% in 60 minutes
- No memory effect
- Maintenance-free
- Less self-discharge: approx. 10% per month
- Longer service life: usually 600-800 charging cycles
- Significantly higher purchase costs
- Higher power loss at low temperatures
- Higher risk potential in the event of improper handling or damage
Our assessment
After weighing up the pros and cons, most customers are now opting for the lithium version of the electric scooter.
For this reason, we have added more and more electric scooters with lithium batteries to our range over the last few years in order to fulfil customer requirements.
However, due to the high demand for lithium, after years of falling prices, there has now been a turnaround and prices are rising.
The price difference between the battery variants is increasing, so the lead-gel battery still has its raison d'être.
So if you only use your 3-wheel or 4-wheel senior mobility scooter for short journeys and have a charging facility or garage on your doorstep, this cheaper, safe and tried-and-tested option is still a good choice.
Whatever you decide, we hope you enjoy your Rolektro and wish you a safe journey at all times!
