Nevertheless, for safety reasons, we recommend that you take out liability insurance or include the MX4-6 electric mobility scooter in your existing personal liability insurance, for which written confirmation from the insurer is required. Driver's license No driver's license is required to drive an electric mobility scooter with a maximum speed of up to 15 km/h. Where can and may an electric mobility scooter be driven? Electric mobility scooters may be driven at walking speed wherever pedestrian traffic is permitted, e.g., on sidewalks or in pedestrian zones. Only if there is no sidewalk may bike paths or roads be used. Outside built-up areas, combined cycle paths and footpaths may also be used. Helmet and seat belt requirements There is no helmet and seat belt requirement for users of senior mobility scooters with a maximum speed of up to 15 km/h. Registration and tax exemption Vehicles with a maximum speed of up to 6 km/h are exempt from registration and tax in accordance with § 3 No. 1 KraftStG (German Motor Vehicle Tax Act). This means that no motor vehicle tax is payable and the vehicle does not have to undergo a TÜV inspection.
