Information on battery disposal

In connection with the sale of batteries or the delivery of devices containing batteries, we are obliged to inform you of the following:

Batteries are not allowed to be disposed of with household trash.

You can either return used batteries that we carry or have carried in our range as new batteries to us at your own expense or return them free of charge to our shipping warehouse (shipping address). Alternatively, you can hand in the batteries at your local collection points.

As an end user, you are legally obliged to return used batteries so that they can be recycled or disposed of properly.
Used batteries may contain harmful substances that can damage the environment or your health if not stored or disposed of properly. However, batteries also contain important raw materials such as iron, zinc, manganese or nickel and can be recycled.

The symbols on the batteries have the following meanings:
The symbol of the crossed-out trash can means that the battery is not allowed to be disposed of with household trash.
For batteries containing a certain amount of lead, cadmium or mercury, the following additions below the symbol with the crossed-out wheelie bin indicate the respective pollutants:
Pb = Battery contains more than 0.004% lead by weight
Cd = Battery contains more than 0.002% cadmium by weight
Hg = Battery contains more than 0.0005% mercury by weight
Information on the costs involved in accordance with Article 56 (4) of the EU Battery Regulation (Regulation 2023/1542) can be found at the ‘Batterie-Zurück’ initiative.

Special features when selling starter batteries

In connection with the sale of starter batteries, we are obliged under Section 19 of the German Battery Act (BattDG) to charge a deposit of €7.50 including VAT per starter battery if you are an end consumer and do not return any used starter batteries when purchasing a new starter battery. The deposit is not included in the purchase price and is shown separately from the final price on the item.

If you return a used starter battery to us which we carry or have carried in our range as a new battery in accordance with § 18 BattDG, we are obliged under the statutory provisions to take it back free of charge and refund the deposit amount.
If we have issued a deposit token in accordance with § 19 (1) sentence 3 BattDG, the refund of the deposit upon return of the used starter battery is dependent on the return of the deposit token.

Returning used starter batteries by post is not permitted due to hazardous goods regulations.
Used starter batteries can also be returned free of charge to recycling centres. The deposit we charge is not refunded by public recycling centres. However, you can have the return of the used starter battery confirmed on the deposit token. Upon presentation of the receipted deposit token, we will refund the battery deposit to you. If no deposit token was issued, proof of return from the authorised collection agent is sufficient. In this case, the proof must not be older than two weeks at the time of presentation.

How does the deposit refund process work?

Step 1: Print disposal certificate

Please download the sample disposal certificate and print it out. If you do not have access to a printer, you may request written confirmation from the collection point. You may also have this confirmed on our invoice.
If we have provided a deposit token with the goods, the refund of the deposit is only possible upon return of the deposit token.

Step 2: Disposal of the used battery

Due to hazardous goods regulations, returning used vehicle batteries to us by postal shipment is not permitted. Therefore, we offer two options for refunding the battery deposit:

• Personal return: Return your used battery/batteries in person at our retail store in Erkrath near Düsseldorf.
• Return to a disposal facility: Dispose of your used battery/batteries free of charge at one of approximately 200,000 collection points, e.g. municipal recycling centers.

Important: Please ensure that the disposal of your used battery/batteries is confirmed in writing on your disposal certificate. Make sure that the quantity and type of battery/batteries returned are acknowledged on the certificate. Please also ensure that the battery/batteries are discharged or that the terminals are taped before return.

Step 3: Submit disposal confirmation

Please send us the confirmed disposal certificate by email to [email protected] or by post. Please note that the certificate must not be older than 14 days.

Step 4: Refund of the battery deposit

The refund of the battery deposit is generally processed within 20 days after review of your refund request. Please make sure to provide your bank details for the refund.
